Check your checks and imposters: Latest fraud trends
Fraudulent activities are constantly changing. We will discuss how fraudsters are utilizing checks to their advantage, ranging from the mobile check deposit feature of numerous banks, pirated check printing software, and the interception and acquisition of stolen checks. We will highlight the dangers of this scheme and make recommendations to actively mitigate this rising area of fraud.
Another form of fraud that has been around for decades is identity theft. We have seen many new tools and methods used by fraudsters to create synthetic identities. Many of the synthetic identities are used to scam financial institutions, leaving them potentially with millions of dollars in financial losses. This portion of the webinar will give an overview of how fraudsters create synthetic identities, the tools and services they use, as well as how fraudsters are utilizing CPNs (credit privacy number) in lieu of social security numbers when applying for credit and other types of accounts.
